Typefaces that read as urban may vary from classical, denoting a cultured,
cosmopolitan background, to very stylized, evoking the varied subcultures
to be found within the city. As a result, sharp, oldstyle, even archaic serifs;
bold, condensed sans serifs; and hip-hop graffiti styles can all equally rep-
resent the urban fabric. In more neutral faces, the angularity of curved
forms becomes important, creating a kind of formality and tension in nor-
mally organic strokes that may convey the density of urban population.
