JavaScript has its origins in 1995 from Netscape's Brendan Eich. It was initially called by the name LiveScript but renamed as JavaScript to probably capitalize on the rising popularity of Sun's Java. Since then, it has been a source of confusion about the name, since practically it is totally different from Java. Later in 1997, Netscape submitted the language to ECMA which is a European standards organization, for enhancements. The updated version was called ECMAScript. So sometimes it is also called by the same name. It underwent major enhancements regularly since then.
