1.6 HIGHER LEVEL PROTOCOLS

Protocols operate at multiple levels during communication between systems on the web as is seen in the OSI model. Key to using the web is various high level protocols like FTP, SMTP, Telnet and HTTP. Out of this list, perhaps the most ubiquitous and most used protocol is the HTTP, which will be discussed later in this chapter.

1.6.1 FTP

Files can easily be copied over another computer residing on the same network, through a shared folder. Transfer of files can even be sent over E-Mails but then the size is limited.
