5.4 TRANSFORMATION FROM STATIC TO DYNAMIC SITES

From a technology perspective, compared to the faster changing world of client-side technologies, the server-side technologies, largely pioneered by Java, has been changing relatively less fast. It has been mentioned that when the web first started, it had only static web pages. In addition, it was predominantly text based. The path from Static pages to Rich UI has taken the last decade and a half or so. Although the evolution did not happen in a structured way, it can be thought to be represented as shown in Figure 5.3.
