8.9 XML PARSING

Parsing is one of the aspects of handling XML, as indicated in Figure 8.4. An XML document contains pieces of data. To make it available in a way that an application can consume (use) it, requires extraction of the same from the document. This is called parsing. It is used in a program through parsers. Two of the standard parsers are the SAX Parser and the DOM Parser.

XML is independent of the technology which is used as well as the vendor which implements. Support is provided by Microsoft as well as in Java environments or any other web development environment like Rails.
