When you’re new to gaming, it’s sometimes difficult to understand the language gamers use. Although the language is constantly evolving, this list will give you a good view of what other gamers are talking about—or what’s happening—when you’re playing games online:

• Artificial intelligence (AI). This allows the computer-controlled characters in a game to think, move, and act in a way similar to humans.

• Button mashing. This is when a game player randomly presses all the buttons on a controller during game play. This is a method commonly employed when learning martial arts–based fighting games. Button mashing decreases as the player learns actual moves.
