Deployment Scenarios
In general, you will perform automated Windows Vista deployments in three scenarios: Upgrade Computer (in-place upgrade), New Computer (wipe-and-load), and Replace Computer. The following sections provide an overview of each scenario.
You can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista in-place. Windows Vista editions can upgrade some previous editions of Windows XP, as shown in Table 3-1. Some restrictions exist, depending on which edition of Windows XP you are upgrading. This scenario is called Upgrade Computer.
