Connects to a remote computer over a network

telnet [options] [remote-computer]

The telnet utility implements the TELNET protocol to connect to a remote system over a network. The remote-computer is the name or IP address of the remote system. You can use telnet to establish a login session on a remote system that you have an account on.

security || telnet Is Not Secure

The telnet utility is not secure. It sends your username and password over the network as cleartext, which is not a secure practice. Use ssh (page 374) when it is available and the remote system supports it.
