Blockchain definitions

You'll remember that one of the very first things we did in this chapter was note there are several definitions of the word blockchain. Before we move on, let's have a look at several definitions of the word:

"A blockchain is a peer-to-peer distributed ledger forged by consensus, combined with a system for "smart contracts" and other assistive technologies." - hyperledger.org

"A blockchain is a specific form or subset of distributed ledger technologies, which constructs a chronological chain of blocks, hence the name "block-chain."" - Antony Lewis, the Director of Research at R3

"The blockchain data structure is an ordered, back-linked list of blocks." - Andreas Antonopoulos, a popular Bitcoin evangelist
