The crossover (recombination) operator allows us to stochastically generate new generations (solutions) from existing populations by recombining genetic information from two parents to generate offspring. Thus, the portions of good solutions from parent organisms can be combined and can potentially lead to better offspring. Typically, after a crossover, the produced offspring are mutated before being added to the population of the next generation.
