We ’ve now covered the entire five-step decision-making process: es-
tablishing the context, framing the problem, generating alternatives,
evaluating alternatives, and making the decision. This process can be
applied to decisions of all types and sizes. In the remaining chapters
we circle back and examine in detail some of the knottier issues
faced by decision makers, beginning with uncertainty.
Summing Up
• Catchball is a method for improving ideas and creating buy-in
among participants. Whoever “catches” the idea assumes re-
sponsibility for understanding it and improving it in some way
before passing it on to someone else in the decision group.
