About the Subject Adviser
ALAN J. ROWE is a distinguished emeritus professor of management and
organization at the University of Southern California. He holds BS
and MS degrees in industrial engineering from Columbia University.
His dissertation describes one of the first uses of computer simulation
for industry.
Dr. Rowe was the director of industrial dynamics on the corpo-
rate staff of Hughes Aircraft, where he was responsible for project
management systems and for all computer applications. While on the
corporate staff of General Electric, he consulted with the 110 oper-
