It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Active Role
A CM that is initiating a connection request on behalf of a local client application is playing the active role in the connection establishment procedure.
Passive Role
A CM that accepts a connection establishment request from a remote CM is playing the passive role in the connection establishment procedure.
