Summary

One of the strongest and most popular security mechanisms in place today is the SSL security standard. This widely supported security mechanism is neatly layered on top of TCP/IP network sockets so that an application implemented to work with sockets can be easily converted to work with SSL.

This chapter examined the JSSE package, which allows Java applications to use this security mechanism. We first examined the API and then, since an example is worth a thousand words, we provided an example that demonstrated the use of JSSE.
