Both of the logging packages we have demonstrated here required a configuration file. These configuration files contain a number of flexible settings which detail how logging should be performed. In a production environment where logging is being used to track the progress of critical programs or to log potentially serious warnings and errors, it is important that logging be done correctly. To make logging work correctly it is important that a centralized set of one or more configuration files be managed and controlled by staff responsible for system administration and maintenance.
