Summary

Creating a UI for mobile devices isn't too different from creating a UI for a console or computer, but it does have limitations in the types of inputs you can accept. Most of the input is controlled via buttons on the screen, but you can accept more than one screen input and can also access information about the device's accelerometer and gyroscope.

In this chapter, we discussed the following topics:

  • The recommended button sizes for mobile games
  • Laying out interactions based on the thumb zone
  • How to access multi-touch buttons
  • When to use the accelerometer and gyroscope
  • How to add long-press or press-and-hold functionality
  • How to add a four-directional virtual D-pad and a floating eight-directional analog stick
