Creating Files and Folders

To create a file, you first need to create new data (by typing text or drawing a picture, for example) using a program (such as a word processor or paint program). You then select File ▸ Save to save the file. To create a folder, you have two options:

• Create a new folder in the Save dialog.

• Create a new folder in the Finder window.

If you’ve used a computer before, you know that you need to save your data periodically in case your computer crashes or the power suddenly goes out. Fortunately, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion automatically saves your data as you create it. That way if the computer does crash or the power goes out, you won’t lose any data.
