It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Since you can see the other person, FaceTime can be especially handy for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, who can use FaceTime to communicate through sign language.
Students can study through FaceTime by showing their notes to each other, while technicians can use FaceTime to troubleshoot equipment. Just show a technician what the problem is and they can tell you what to do while watching your actions at the same time.
With so many Apple products sporting webcams these days, you’ll be able to reach out and chat with many people, whether they’re sitting in front of a Macintosh computer or roaming around with an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
