17.1. Composite operations

Figures 17.1 and 17.2 show composite operation invocations: first, a simple nested invocation; then a general hierarchy of operations. We are no longer concerned with the detailed mechanism for invocation of the operations and protection of the data objects operated on. We assume that each operation is part of a concurrent system and will therefore have concurrency control associated with its invocation as discussed in Part II.
