Part IV: Case Studies

In Part IV we look at the design choices that were made in some real systems. Many papers, web pages, standards documents, and sometimes books, have been written on the systems we consider. A short case study cannot do full justice to any system and, for greater insight, the papers written by those involved in the design and everyday use of the systems are referenced.

Although fragments of UNIX have been used as examples through-out the book, classical UNIX is the first case study in Chapter 24.
