Early ATMs were essentially cash dispensers. Their single function was to deliver cash in the form of banknotes and debit the corresponding bank account. Further facilities have now been added to these automatic tellers. You can enquire about the status of your bank accounts. You can move money between your own accounts and sometimes may be allowed to credit another person's account. It may be possible for travellers' cheques to be dispensed (in countries where these are needed). There may also be a simple deposit facility.
