When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Why do we need Akka Streams and why not just Akka?
It's really important to know the answer to this question.
Why can't we use just plain Akka Actors to support data streaming process? Why do we need another separate API or Library or Module—Akka Streams?
In this context, Akka Actors have two things going against them:
- Akka Actors do not support type safety very well. We know that Actor's receive() function supports any kind of message type that is Any (Scala type name). Even though the Akka Team is working on Typed Actors, as of now, we are all using Untyped Actors only.
- Plain Akka Actors do not support dynamic push/pull backpressure.
