Supervision is a technique to organize the Akka Actors into a hierarchy, which means creating a parent-child relationship between Actors.
In Akka terminology, the parent Actor is known as supervisor and the child Actor as subordinate:

As shown in the preceding diagram, all Akka Actors are organized into a tree-like hierarchy. The supervisor Actor is responsible for supervising the subordinate Actors. These subordinate Actors again may have child Actors, which may also have subordinates. Final or leaf Actors are responsible for doing the actual work (Business logic).
