Here’s a Rule I frequently have to remind myself of. I’m not perfect and I struggle with this one but I know it’s right, and I so envy those people who can stick to it with apparent ease.
The thing about shouting at people is that it never helps, apart from sometimes making you feel a bit better in the short term. That’s it. It doesn’t resolve things quicker, or make the other person more co-operative, or help either of you think rationally. It just lets off a bit of steam.
Whereas, on the down side . . . it makes you look petty, out of control, and governed by knee-jerk emotions. And makes the other person feel defensive, maybe resentful, and possibly unloved.
