If you listed all the people you love, I imagine your partner and your children – if you have them – would come first and the rest of your family and your friends would come along afterwards in some haphazard kind of order. And beyond that are all the people you barely know, and may not love in the deep, passionate way you do your close family, but who nevertheless you wish well. And even people you’ve never met but still feel a warmth towards.
