Hydrological modeling
Hydrological models in GIS provide spatial elements and analysis with variables such as slope, aspect, and catchment area. This includes terrain analysis, as it is fundamental to hydrology since water always flows down a slope. Slope and aspect can be used to determine the direction of a surface runoff and flow accumulation for streams, rivers, and lakes.
Areas of divergent flow also gives a clearer indication of boundaries regarding catchment. As flow direction and accumulation matrixes are created, queries can be performed to show dispersal areas.
