Incidents can lead to injuries and fatalities. Figures 4.3 and 4.4
give the numbers of fatalities and injuries by mode during the period of
1999–2008 in the United States. The highway mode again accounts for
most fatalities in the reported period. During the period between 2003
and 2007 in Canada, on average, seven people were killed and forty-two
people were injured annually (Transport Canada 2008).
