A meta-directory is a single directory in an organization that provides users one stop for their directory needs. Directory data may reside in several directories across the organization, but the meta-directory brings this disparate data together, while leaving the data in its native directory. This is accomplished by representing directory objects in the meta-directory but referring queries to the directory where the data is stored. Careful planning of how your Active Directory will integrate with Windows NT 4.0, NetWare with NDS, and UNIX NIS will make this meta-directory the enterprise directory.
