As organizations grow, they might outgrow the boundaries of a single domain configuration. They might outgrow this for several reasons:
The number of objects in the domain exceeds the practical maximum for the domain. A result would be that directory searches take significant amounts of time to complete.
The security requirements of the organization might outgrow the limits of a single domain.
Network boundaries make a single domain environment impractical.
If this occurs, it is necessary to add domains to the tree to accommodate the growth.
