Microsoft has really used the increase in administrative capabilities provided by Windows 2000 and Active Directory as a spearhead for its marketing campaign. Rightfully so, Active Directory does provide much more administrative functionality than Windows NT 4.0. As one of the co-authors of this book likes to state, "The pendulum has swung from minimum administrative flexibility in NT 4.0 to maximum flexibility in Active Directory."
Hence, organizations now have the ability to reevaluate their administrative structure and implement an Active Directory design based on business processes not technical limitations.
