A normal map will give you a layer of detail for materials in 3D with no need to add new geometry to a 3D model. Using such a map will make small elevations on a surface based on a map.
If you look at our normal map texture, shown in the following image, you will see a strange arrangement of colors:

Using the information from the texture, Blender will try to create the wood plank shapes on the object surface. It won't be the same as making them using polygons, but it will be enough to give a sensation that something is there representing the wood.
