This chapter presents an overview of relational databases. Normalization is a very important
concept in relational databases. In this chapter, the process of normalization is explained with suit-
able examples. Integrity constraints, another important concept in relational data model, are also
briefl y discussed here. Relational algebra and the overall concept of relational database management
system have also been illustrated in this chapter with appropriate examples.
