The reconstruction is relatively easier if global checkpoints are available. First, at the failed site
the latest local checkpoint that can be consider as safe is determined, and this determines which
earlier global state has to be reconstructed. Then all other sites are requested to re-establish the
local states of the corresponding local checkpoints. The main diffi culty with this approach is the
recording of global checkpoints.
