High-demand hard real-time systems

At the other end of the heterogenous multi-core spectrum from an NXP LPC54100 would be a device such as the NXP i.Mx8, which contains two Cortex-A72s, four Cortex-A53s, two Cortex-M4Fs, one DSP, and two GPUs. A system such as this one will generally be used where extremely computationally intensive operations are required, in addition to low-latency or hard real-time interactions with hardware. Computer vision, AI, on-target adaptive machine learning, and advanced closed-loop control systems are all reasonable applications for the i.Mx8. So, instead of incorporating an i.Mx8 (or similar CPU) into a product, why not use a more general purpose computing solution for a system that requires this much computing ...
