Dealing with changes

One of the biggest drawbacks to having code that is common to many projects is the implications of a change. Directory structure changes can be some of the most challenging to deal with, especially if there are a large number of projects. Although painful, this type of refactoring is often necessary over time as teams' needs and strategies change. Performing regular check-ins and tagging your repository should be all that is necessary to provide confidence that directory restructuring changes, while painstaking, aren't particularly dangerous.
