It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Setting Up Your Own Web Database Service
App Inventor provides a step-by-step tutorial on creating a custom web service with Google App Engine at http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/custom-tinywebdb.html.
After following the tutorial, you won’t have to depend on the shared default database, which all of the App Inventor world uses. With your own TinyWebDB service, nobody but you will be using the service, so you don’t have to worry about others bumping your data out or overwriting your tags.
