Apple System Profiler
The System Profiler (found in Applications → Utilities) tool is like a little X-ray machine for your Mac. It reveals all kinds of useful details about your computer, including information about its hard drives, memory, attached devices, and so on. If you—or a tech-support person you have on the phone—ever have a question about what’s inside your machine, System Profiler is a good first stop on Geekland’s solution trail.
Quick Access to Apple System Profiler
Instead of burrowing into your Applications → Utilities folder to open System Profiler, it’s faster to use this trick: choose
→ About This Mac, then, in the resulting dialog box, click the More Info button. The About This Mac window closes and Apple System Profiler opens, just like that.
