When a person sets foot on a professional set for the first time, it can seem like none of the crew is speaking English. The amount of industry-specific vocabulary used by a film crew can be absolutely staggering. One of the primary skills a person gains working on the first few films is becoming familiar with the commonly used expressions.
In this glossary, I’ve tried to include most of the common terms you’ll hear on a set. I felt it important to include this list since a first visit to a professional set can be disconcerting just because of all of the new terminology, even if you have enough experience to know what’s actually going on.
