Big Picture

You are a social media manager, brand manager, or business analyst studying consumer sentiment for a specific brand/company and its competitors. You download tweets from Twitter and examine the sentiment around them, rating them using a tool such as Amazon's Mechanical Turk.

Specifics

  • You have text comments from consumers for some period of time. This could be tweets from Twitter, customer service notes, consumer review websites, or texts or emails from consumers.
  • You have cleaned the text and had the comments rated, either manually reviewed or using computer algorithms.
  • This sentiment is on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best (most positive) and 1 being the worst (negative).
  • You want to see how this sentiment compares to the sentiment of your other brands or your competitor's brands or as a company over all.
  • You have a large number of data points: hundreds, thousands, or even more.
