Another View of Theory X
After years of rejection and repudiation, Theory X was given
new respectability by academic and consultant Scott Parry.
Parry’s research led him to conclude that Theory Y doesn’t
work for everyone; some managers are so steeped in authori-
tarian experiences that they cannot stop giving orders, and
feel compelled to maintain their social distance from
employees.
This limits their ability to work effectively with groups
that demand involvement, Parry maintains, but they still are
