For effective narrative, static mediums must find ways to suggest the passage of time and continuity of action.
• Single scene. One pivotal moment in the narrative is depicted.
• Continuous scene. A narrative continues through various events within a single frame.
• Multi-scene. Multiple events are depicted in a single scene, with characters making repeated appearances.
• Progression in location. Multiple events take place sequentially at a single location.
• Sequential framing. Each event is placed within its own frame, and the frames are arranged in sequence. This is the technique of comic books, manga, and graphic novels.
