14. Writing Social Media Updates

Social networking is the latest and greatest online phenomenon. Chances are that you or your organization have actively embraced social networking, probably in the form of Twitter and Facebook. That’s probably a good thing; social networking is a great way to connect with your fans or customer base.

It even seems easy; the posts are so short that anyone can write them—right? Not necessarily. In my experience, it takes more talent and discipline to write something short than it does to write it long; editing for length is harder than just blathering on.

With that in mind, welcome to the wonderful world of writing for social media. It’s definitely not as easy as it looks!
