Social Engineering
A significant weakness in any technical system, whether it be a server, a wired network, a firewall, a virtual private network (VPN), or some other system, is the system’s end users. These end users—even those who are trained and experienced—may fall prey to social engineering: the practice of teasing out information from people that should not be shared and using it to one’s advantage.
Phishing is an example of social engineering. With phishing, scammers send an email that appears to come from the receiver’s bank or some other trusted organization.
