There are many Wi-Fi network discovery tools available, as free open-source toolkits or as built-in features within professional suites for Wi-Fi monitoring and management. These tools perform like Wi-Fi stumblers, scanning the air for devices and nearby networks, gathering information such as signal strength, encryption types, access point type and manufacturer.
Many also include heat mapping functionality, which maps out the RF footprint of each discovered access point against either a default grid or an imported floor plan.
