Introduction
Publishing scholarly research in academic journals involves a set of
specific skills, which can be studied continuously and honed with
experience. e set of skills, beyond value- added scholarly content
which is necessary but not sufficient, includes manuscript preparation,
manuscript revision, deconstruction and developmental reviewing of
other authors’ work, and neutral professionalism in communications
with action editors, reviewers, and other authors. e chapter uses
the term “action editor” to refer to any of the possibilities of editor
