corresponding editor has, for want of coaching, rejected a manuscript
that meets the journal’s mission and has the potential for meeting its
quality standards. If the editor- in- chief determines that the corre-
sponding editor has missed the opportunity to coach the author, he or
she should open a dialogue with that editor to better understand the
decision and, if appropriate, coach the editor so that better decisions
can be made in the future. Even experienced editors can continue to
learn through appropriate feedback at this juncture.
