How to do it...

First, we will create and attach an internet gateway to our VPC, as follows:

1. Go to the VPC service in the console.
2. Click on Internet Gateways from the left sidebar.
3. Click on Create internet gateway.

4. Give a descriptive name for Name tag and click Create. We should get a success message that the internet gateway has been created. Click Close to close the message. If we go to the Internet Gateways screen, we will see that the State of our internet gateway is currently detached:

5. Select the internet gateway we created, click on the Actions dropdown, and click on Attach to VPC.
