Introduction
Asset management is perhaps the most misunderstood of all the lifecycle elements. Historically, many businesses were not overly concerned about asset management. There was a belief that asset management simply could not be driven by a set of financial justifications and that asset management is a drain of costs. Asset management was difficult to cost justify in the past.
Many businesses have tried on multiple occasions to implement asset management. These experiences often are exasperating and usually quite costly. It was in vogue to point to a software packages, or packages, as part of the rationale of the failed implementation or as a part of the rationale to avoid further investments.
