Testing the components
A good workflow when working with microcontrollers is to verify that the components in your project work individually before you combine them. One of the mistakes made by many Arduino beginners is connecting too many things at once. This makes it very hard to diagnose the cause of any problems and, in turn, makes it difficult to solve them.
A better approach is to spend a little bit more time up front and make sure every component you are planning to use in your project works on its own. When you, later on, attach multiple components and write more complex code, it will be easier to debug.
