APIs are popular and widely used because they are simple, schematic, fast to develop, and quick to deploy. This naturally brings challenges in terms of ensuring that implementations are secured from various threats, such as man-in-the-middle-attacks (MITM), a lack of XML encryptions, insecure endpoints, and API URL parameters.
REST APIs have similar vulnerabilities as web applications; we will present the most common API attacks and vulnerabilities in the following sections, then move on to security tests.
